Iron Man

Iron Man would be another of those characters like Spider-man and Wolverine who would see lots of characters. He was unique in that almost all of his figures would swap armor pieces. A lot of his variants also made sense, since he did change armor quite a lot in the comics.

Iron Man

Secret Wars Series 1 - 1984

Iron Man's first figure would be modeled after his classic sleek red and gold armor. Curiously, despite being one of the character's oldest and longest running armor, it would not be remade at all in the future Toybiz Iron Man toyline. A figure modeled after this particular armor would not be remade until the Marvel Legends toyline many years later.

Figure ability: 5 Points of Articulation

Iron Man

Marvel Super Heroes Series 2 - 1990

This figure is modeled after Iron-Man's then-recent armor and one of the only figures modeled after this particular armor. This Iron Man is very close to how future Iron Man figures would be handled. He comes with detachable armor pieces as well as a removable helmet. One of the better figures in the line.

Figure ability: Quick change armor
Accessories: Arm armor x2, Boots x2, Helmet, Chest armor

Hydro Armor Iron Man

Iron Man Series 1 - 1994

Marvel Universe '96 Series 7 - 1997

The first variant Iron Man, this was designed to be an Underwater Iron Man. This figure, like all the other Iron Man figures, comes with a good level of detail on the figure and decent articulation. The figure's armor is a shiny orangeish gold and he comes with a little helmet to go over his normal Iron Man helmet.

Figure ability: Removable armor
Accessories: Missles x2, Launcher, Arm armor x2, Shoulder armor x2, Boots x2, Chest armor x2, Helmet

Iron Man

Iron Man Series 1 - 1994

Marvel Universe '96 Series 3 - 1996

This version is the 'normal' Iron Man, with the standard red and yellow armor designed after what he looked like in the comics at the time. The figure was pretty good, one of the better in the series and also one of the harder figures to find.

Figure ability: Removable armor
Accessories: Shoulder armor x2, Launcher, Arm armor x2, Launcher, Boots x2, Belt x2, Chest armor x2

Iron Man

Iron Man Heavy Metal Heroes - 1994

This tiny Iron Man is a scaled down version of the normal Iron Man figure, though he doesn’t feature any removable armor. The armor is molded right on to the figure though. He comes packaged with Mandarin.

Hologram Armor Iron Man

Iron Man Series 2 - 1995

Marvel Universe '96 Series 12 - 1997

Miscellaneous Series Secret Wars - 2003

This is not only one of the better Iron Man variants, but also a suit of armor he did wear in the comics for quite awhile. This 'Silver Centurian' Iron Man features removable armor and a good sculpt, just like all the rest. This armor is similar to the armor that was in the comics around the time of the Secret Wars, which makes this Iron Man a nice one to add to a collection.

Figure ability: Removable armor
Accessories: Missle, Gun, Laucher, Belt, Arm armor x2, Shoulder armor x2, Boots x2, Chest armor x2

Stealth Armor Iron Man

Iron Man Series 2 - 1995

Another Iron Man variant, this one has an arctic theme. The figure comes with two large claws and shiny chrome armor. The figure is very similar to the other Iron Man figures in terms of sculpt and articulation.

Hulkbuster Iron Man

Iron Man Series 3 - 1995

Marvel Universe '96 Series 9 - 1996

This version of Iron Man is one of the neater ones. The figure is much bigger than the normal Iron Mans, modeled after the armor that he would have to use if he were to fight the Hulk. The armor pieces on this Iron Man are removable, but are not interchangeable with pieces from other Iron Man figures.

Figure ability: Removable armor
Accessories: None

Tony Stark

Iron Man Series 3 - 1995

Marvel Universe '96 Series 8 - 1997

This is a neat figure, as it a normal Tony Stark that can become Iron Man. The figure only came with a few pieces of armor, but the armor from any other Iron Man could fit onto him. He did come with a helmet though which no other Iron Man figure had. The helmet and few armor pieces he had fit into a large briefcase. A very cool idea.

Figure ability: Removable armor
Accessories: Leg armor x2, Helmet, Suitcase
