Dr. Octopus

Dr. Octopus is one of Spider-man's main villains, which means he would get a bunch of figures in the various lineups. Most of the figures he received were really well done. It would be awhile until he would get a figure of how he looked in the comics, which was kind of short and chunky.

Dr. Octopus

Marvel Super Heroes Series 1 - 1990

Marvel Super Heroes Series 4 - 1991

This Dr. Octopus would have suction cups and weapons attached to his tentacles. The tentacles themselves could move some, but were not super articulated. The figure is modeled after his classic look he had for awhile and famously wore during the Secret Wars and it would not be until many years later in the Marvel Legends series he would get a new figure modeled in this particular costume.

Figure ability: Suction cup grasping tenticles

Dr. Octopus

Spider-Man Series 1 - 1994

One of Spider-man's oldest and biggest villains shows up in the first line-up. The figure is very good, with the tentacles made of wire and soft plastic so they can be moved however you want. The figure has good articulation, as well as a good likeness to the animated version of the character.

Figure ability: Whipping tenticles

Deep Sea Octopus

Spider-Man Web Splashers - 1997

This Dr. Octopus is a lot different than he ever was in the comics. I think he got included because his name was 'octopus' an octopus is a sea creature. He doesn't have metal arms but instead tentacles that come out his forearms.

Figure ability: Inflatable octolegs
Accessories: Octopus raft, Air pump, Dome Halves x2

Spider-Man Spider Power 2 - 1998

This is a more classic look to Dr. Octopus and the only way to get a figure of him modeled after how he looked in the early comics. He looks exactly like he did as drawn by John Romita Sr. and is a great addition to the line. The sculpt on the figure is dead on to the character and he also has good articulation. This figure is unique in that his proportions allow for him to intergrate into the 6 inch scale of figures like Spider-Man Classics and Marvel Legends. Infact: This figure's sculpt is so great it would be reused again twice in following years. Oddly, the final release had black hair even though the prototype was pictured with the correct brown hair.

Dr. Octopus

Spider-Man 6' Classics Series 1 - 2002

This Doctor Octopus is a repaint of the Dr. Octopus that was released a short time ago in the Spider Power series 2. The figure is a bit shorter than a lot of the Spider-men in this line, but doesn’t look too bad.
